Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Instead of sitting at home, stuffing my face with easter chocolate, I was adamant today was going to be at least slightly cultured and academic. So, today I went to the Star City exhibition at the Nottingham Contemporary - the new arts gallery in the city.
The exhibition, which is on until the 18th of April, explores the links between communism, space travel and the history of space exploration. There’s some amazing stuff to be seen, from a giant cosmonaut installation that you can venture inside of through to communist propaganda with the beaming smiles of astronauts.
Personally I really find video installations fascinating - admittedly my family thought I was crazy, but art affects people in different ways so they say. But, why do people always cower in the corners of installations? Get involved, immerse yourself in it. That’s what it’s all about.
If you’ve got a spare hour or few, head down to the Nottingham Contemporary whilst the Star City exhibition is still on! I don’t claim to be an art critique, hence why I’m not even going to try to give a critique, but this is definitely one exhibition that needs to be seen. And the Nottingham Contemporary is a great addition to the city - and was much needed.
I’ll stop now.
